Rocking H Ranch House is the vacation home of a Montana fourth-generation family. The house was outfitted by our grandfather who was raised a rancher and became a long-serving Montana State Senator. He kept horses on the property, and our family still has our reunions in this ideal Montana ranch-like setting just outside of fun Bozeman.

We have sought to keep the ranch feel which the Senator created. The rich colors and wood and copper are a fun change for our guests who want to experience something different than their homes in the city.

The house has 2 king beds, 3 queen and 1 set of bunk beds.  There is one double sofa bed. This is bedroom #1 called the "Spa Room".  It has an outside entrace to the hot tub and deck.

The house sits on 2.5 acres of land - the size of two football fields.  The windows have views of trees and mountains.  The extra long drive-way has parking enough for 9 cars, including 2 in an  attached garage, meaning frost-free cars in winter and no cold walk to the car.
You will enjoy a break from the kids as 6 can sleep in the large-window basement with good natural lighting.  In this downstairs party room is a pool table, foosball table, and bar stocked with glasses from many countries.  The gas fireplace heats the house on a thermostat and creates a beautiful warm place.
The basement TV is one of three TV's with Roku, Netflix, and Amazon Prime channels.  There are many games and puzzles available in the basement.  This sofa folds out into a bed which can sleep 2 more in a pinch, bringing the sleeping spots in the house up to 14.
Even in summer, days can get cool, and a soak in the hot tub on the large deck is fun for all.  When reserving, indicate if you plan to use the hot tub, and we will fill it with new water.
If there during late summer, enjoy some apples or raspberries or rubarb.  Leave some for the next guest, but do eat some or the deer will eat them all.

Through the open back gate is the back portion of land which you are welcome to use.  Over the left fence, our neighbor's two horses are usually at pasture.  The horses are friendly and will come to the fence to see you, but stay on our side of the fence for safety.
The Senator's antique Russian horse sleigh is parked in the front of the house, and kids love to play on it.
Enjoy a sit in the rocking chair on the front portch.  The place is so big the family won't know where to find you.  The Senator created the rock porch himself, and the red bricks were made in 1935 for the old Helena High School. The anvil was used by our great grandfather who was a gold miner near Ennis.

There are 3 bathrooms, each with a shower, and one of them also has this bath.  We love the vintage wallpaper in each. The grandkids who vacation here refuse to let it be changed. They say it is back in style, and the popcorn ceilings will follow! The house is quirky, but everyone enjoys the very Gallatin County vibe.

This is bedroom #2  which is the master bedroom.  Its pinks and reds give it the name the "Rose Room". It has a Sleep Number split King smart bed. It is a luxury bed offering each sleeper to choose their own setting on their side.  Ensuite bathroom.
Master bedroom has a sitting area and small desk. You can work and nap and relax here if you need peace and quiet. One of the three room AC units cools this large room. One of three flatscreen TVs is in this room.
A wide angle picture of the whole master bedroom showing TV.  Master bathroom entrance on the left.
Bedroom #3 on main level has the second king-sized bed.  We call it the "Portrait Room" with original pictures of pioneers of this area.  There is a room air conditioner which can cool the other bedroom also if you keep the door open.  The recliner is for grown-up nap time.
This is the bathroom in the hallway of the main level.  It has new wood flooring and a shower with built-in seat.  The main level, including this bathroom, can accomodate a guest in a wheelchair, but assistance would be needed to get up the 3 steps of the front porch.
In the lower level past the game room is bedroom #4.  A queen bed.  No need for air conditioner in the basement as it is naturally cool all summer.  We call this the "Llama Room".  Art on the lower level is South American original works of Andes indigenous art.
A wide angle of bedroom #4 shows plenty of room with rocking chair.  This room is often used for babies as it is very quiet. The house has a high chair, and chairs in the kitchen are plastic to give some spill-proof options.
And the last bedroom we call the "Bunkroom".  It has bunkbeds in one part, and a curtained-off area has a queen bed.  So the whole room can sleep a family of four. The kids who have grown up visiting this home love the bunkroom and will not allow us to change the Western panelling that feels like their own mountain cabin.
This is the bathroom on the lower level.  It has a shower with built-in seat.  All bathrooms have been updated with ceiling vent fans.
The laundry room has a large capacity washer and dryer and is stocked with washing supplies and extra things for entertaining a large group, like a second coffee pot and toaster.  Guests are free to use anything in the attached garage off this room - ice cream maker, picnic cooler, tools for for the gas barbeque, etc.

The neighborhood has  one mile of peaceful paved country roads that cross over a flowing brook. Residents love going for walks.  There are no through streets so traffic is minimal.  Neighbors drive slow and greet each other.  This is the walk in front of the house.
The garage has a few fishing rods and a fly rod and 2 sets of golf clubs you can use.  There is a public 3-par golf course a 5-minute drive away. This trout was caught on a fly on a creek that is a 7- minute walk away.
The world famous Gallatin river has this fishing access a short 6- minute drive away or 30-minute walk.

Rocking H Ranch House is just a 14-minute drive from the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport and an additional 48- minute drive to the world famous Big Sky ski resort.  Bridger Bowl skiing is a 30-minute drive. There are two pairs of cross country skis along with sleds in the garage.  You can ski a 1/4 mile loop around the property.
A favorite of the kids in winter is to jump out of the hot tub and roll in the snow to make human sugar cookies.  If you are into hot and cold pools, drive over to nearby Bozeman Hot Springs.  It also has a great gym for workouts.

If you are tired of driving, a 10-minute walk away is the "not so gourmet" food options of Four Corners, MT.  A Mexican food place, Subway sandwiches, a bar with outdoor COVID-friendly seating, a pizza place, a cowboy breakfast place, an espresso stand, and a small supermarket that is open 24 hours. Live music at more than one place. Guests love not having to declare a designated driver.

Feel free to use the Stand-Up Paddle Board in the garage. It is inflatable so you can transport it along with the pump.  There are rivers and ponds nearby, but 33 minutes of driving brings you to the spectacular Hyalite Canyon with this lake and public beach.  You can also use the old canoe on the back fence.
Also in the garage are 4 inflatable tubes and foot pump.  There's nothing more relaxing than a float on the Madison River 18 minutes away by car.  Bring 2 cars if you can, or hitch a ride up the canyon for a 2-hour float.  Or pay money and go on one of the Bozeman party bus float trips.
Some guests just hang out in the backyard and grill on the gas grill and read.  There are 2 tables with umbrellas which could seat 12 people. Extra lawn chairs are in the garage.

The ranch house is a great place for family reunions and holidays with loved ones.  There is enough room to have more than one family and still feel you have your own family space.  The house is outside city limits and has its own well which is tested for purity yearly.
The Senator's roping calf and pony buggy are in the front yard.  Use the real lasso from the garage and try to hook the horns.  It's harder than it looks on ESPN Rodeo. Pull the kids in the buggy.  Just try to get things back where you found them for the next guest.
The kitchen has everything you need to cook for a large group. Basic spices are there.  House is well-equipped with towels, sheets, hairdryers, smoke and CO2 detectors. We have tried to think of everything a vacation rental needs.  You will have the contact info of a family friend who lives nearby if you need any advice or have a problem.
Your dog will love the large yard, but the fence is made for horses and has gaps.  You can bring your horse if you want as there is a pasture.  There is rope and doggie dishes.  In the garage is a wire doggie fence you can set up in the back yard or to keep your dog off the carpet when you go out.  Sorry no cats due to allergies :(
This is the view from the large window by the main dining table.  Same view from the kitchen.  Robins and Meadowlarks are a common sight around the bird bath.  There are neighbors in the distance, but none are visible from the main windows of the house.
Western Tanager bird photographed from the dining room window.  They breed in Montana in the summer and will migrate as far as Central America in the winter.
Rasberries are ripe at the end of summer.  If you are a lucky guest to find some, enjoy them right off the bushes or on vanilla ice cream!  We don't put any pesticides on them nor the apple trees.

This is the view out the back of the TV sitting room and also the master bedroom and Spa room. The deer is not always there but comes when the apples are ripe.  The wagon is there and makes a great Instagram photo.  The Senator pulled it with his Clydesdale horse in multiple parades all over Montana.
There are Western dish settings to serve 14. Every kind of drink glass you would need.  The local Black Dog Farm is famous for pork, and peaches are grown in Paradise Valley.  There are also plastic plates and cups for little tykes.
This is a wide angle of the kitchen and dinette area.  A central work space with modern stove and oven.  New dishwasher. Kid-friendly table with stainproof chairs and no rug.  This is where the cousins do art projects while you watch the game in peace.  Handmade marble table from local materials.
This is a wide angle photo taken from the open kitchen/dinette area of the living room/dining room/TV room open area where 22 people could sit and see each other. With these 4 sitting areas and the other sitting area on the lower level, there are plenty of spaces for more private conversations.  The house has served our family well for family reunions for decades.  We hope your family will become closer here.

There is a desk between the dining room and TV room.  Normal speed wireless internet is available throughout the house.  Guests are able to stream movies and games via the network. If you need dedicated work space to write that novel, you can move the small desk and chair from the master bedroom to any room of the house.
The TV room on the main level seats 7 people with two electric stain-proof recliners and a reclining love seat.  TV has long HDMI cable, and there's a DVD player with movies.  This room has the third air conditioner which cools the whole living area for the few weeks of the year that need it.
We love this ranch house, and if you are looking for a Montana adventure, book a stay! As you enter, on the left is the tribute wall to the Senator remembering his cowboy days. He rode for the Montana State rodeo team.  There is a booklet in the house which tells the story of the home and decorations and how to have fun in the area.  And it tells you about the quirks of the place.  Give us a holler if you want to rent!
